- I agree, and often this shows in that the best software for a particular
- job is written by someone who does that job but also happens to be a
- programmer.
-
- I work for a company that does not use (much) the software we write,
- and whenever I go onsite, I get questions like "why can't we do this",
- or "why does it work that way, I would expect it to work like this",
- "it would be really helpful if we could do this", or "I never use this
- feature", etc, and I can hardly ever disagree with the user. Often I
- myself can think of features that could be added or changed that would
- really help the user.
-
- I believe that if a programmer or software company really cares about
- making good quality software to make their users' lives easier, they
- should have their programmers and software designers go and sit with
- users, technical support staff, marketing people, etc and really find
- out what each set of people wants. I suspect most companies don't
- care that much.

-
- I think that's being a little extreme. If you have intelligent
- users, and the programmer has some familiarity with how the user
- works, then between the users and the programmers, you should get
- enough useful input.
